Located on the world-famous sands of Kāʻanapali Beach, The Westin Maui Resort & Spa offers a setting that perfectly blends modern luxury with traditional Hawaiian hospitality. This beachfront property is not only known for its upscale amenities and scenic views, but also as the home of one of Maui’s most vibrant cultural events: the Wailele Luau. This immersive evening under the stars invites guests to experience the rhythms, legends, and flavors of Polynesia—all without leaving the comfort of West Maui.
A World-Class Resort on Kāʻanapali Beach
The Westin Maui is more than just a place to stay—it’s a tropical escape. Surrounded by lush gardens and overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the resort features newly renovated rooms, a multi-level pool complex, a full-service spa, and dining options that highlight local ingredients and culinary creativity. It’s no surprise this resort has become a favorite among honeymooners, families, and returning Maui visitors alike.
Whether you’re relaxing by the pool or walking the beachfront path to nearby Whalers Village, the resort’s atmosphere is both peaceful and lively. And in the evening, it transforms into a cultural destination with its signature event: the Wailele Polynesian Luau.
Welcome to the Luau
As the sun begins to dip toward the horizon, the gentle sound of traditional music invites guests to the Valley Isle Terrace—an open-air garden venue on the property. Guests are greeted with a warm aloha, a shell or flower lei, and a refreshing tropical drink. This sets the stage for what is more than just a dinner show—it’s a journey through the stories and spirit of the Pacific Islands.
Before the main performance begins, guests can explore cultural displays or simply take in the stunning views as tiki torches flicker to life. The sound of the ocean nearby adds to the tranquil, tropical ambiance that makes this luau so special.
A Feast of Island Flavors
No luau is complete without a generous Hawaiian-style feast, and the Wailele Luau does not disappoint. The buffet features a wide variety of dishes inspired by local flavors and traditional Polynesian cooking. From kalua pork, slow-roasted in the style of an underground imu, to grilled island fish, teriyaki chicken, and vegetarian options, every guest is sure to find something they’ll love.
Fresh salads, island-style noodles, coconut-infused side dishes, and tropical fruit accompany the entrées, while dessert features a mix of local sweets—think liliko‘i cheesecake, haupia, and other coconut- and taro-based delicacies.
To complement the meal, guests enjoy an open bar offering tropical cocktails like Mai Tais and Blue Hawaiians, alongside wine, local beer, sodas, and juices. Whether you’re toasting with a signature island drink or sipping something more familiar, it’s all included with your luau experience.
A Journey Through Polynesia
The real magic of the Wailele Luau begins when the lights go down and the storytelling begins. This professionally choreographed production takes guests on a voyage across the Pacific, sharing dances, chants, and music from various Polynesian islands including Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, and Aotearoa (New Zealand).
Each performance is carefully woven with narrative, offering guests insight into cultural values, family traditions, and island mythology. One of the evening’s most powerful segments is the tribute to Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes. Her story is brought to life through dramatic hula and live chant, creating a moment of reverence and awe.
The show builds in energy and intensity, culminating in a spectacular fire-knife dance performance. Featuring some of Maui’s most skilled and daring performers, the fire dance finale is a thrilling conclusion that leaves the crowd in awe. Set against the night sky, with flames spinning and drums beating, it’s the kind of unforgettable moment that defines a Hawaiian vacation.
Seating Options and What to Expect
Guests can choose between Premium Seating and ʻOhana Seating:
Premium Seating offers early admission and reserved spots closest to the stage. This is ideal for those who want an unobstructed view of the performance and a more immersive experience.
ʻOhana Seating is located just behind the premium area and still provides excellent views of the show, making it a great option for families or those seeking a more budget-friendly option.
Regardless of which section you choose, seating is assigned in the order reservations are received. So, the earlier you book, the better your spot will be.
From the moment you arrive to the final beat of the drum, the evening flows smoothly thanks to friendly staff, excellent service, and thoughtful details that elevate the entire experience.
